Anchored on the theme, “Enriching cultural heritage and indigenous treasure towards a brighter future for the new Philippines,” the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) led the Indigenous People’s (IP) General Assembly on November 9, 2023, at Lou-is Resort and Restaurant.
In her address, Vice Governor Ma. Cristina Garcia underscored the advantages of being an Iskolar ng Bataan for the IPs, emphasizing the pivotal role of education in shaping individual minds and abilities. Vice Gov. Garcia reassured that the Provincial Government of Bataan remains committed to placing Bataeños at the forefront of their programs, ensuring that no Bataeño is left behind.
Similarly, Balanga City Councilor Christian Manalaysay emphasized that the City of Balanga places primary focus on health, considering it the most critical indicator of quality life. He stressed the importance of establishing rural health facilities in each barangay to ensure easy access to primary health care.
Atty. Richard Piaga, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Provincial Officer, conveyed his gratitude to those consistently supporting the IP communities in their endeavors and cultural events, highlighting the significance of valuing and preserving the culture of IP communities.
In conjunction with the general assembly and cultural presentation, representatives from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) were present to assist IPs in obtaining their national IDs. Additionally, the medical on wheels initiative, led by the Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC), provided various health consultations and dental checkups. Also present at the event were representatives from the PNP Bataan PPO, IP Representative Hon. Feliciano Magay Jr., Dr. Glory V. Baltazar, Dr. Bong Galicia, and NCIP Regional Director Atty. Roland P. Calde.
