Bataan lawmaker Geraldine Roman of the First District has successfully passed two legislative bills on their third reading. First is House Bill 8009, also known as The Anti-Electronic Violence Against Women and Children, is dedicated to safeguarding women and children from digital harm.
This includes the removal and shutdown of any content or applications that promote or instigate electronic/digital/cyber violence. Secondly, House Bill 2490, also known as “An Act Rationalizing the Disability Pension for Veterans”, aims to update and increase the disability pension rates for veterans and their beneficiaries.
The Anti-Electronic Violence Against Women and Children bill will amend the Anti-VAWC Act of 2004 (Republic Act 9262). The bill seeks to define electronic or online violence against women and their children. The proposed Expanded Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children (E-VAWC) Act will expand the anti-VAWC law to be “more responsive to the present times and this will give added protection to women and children from all forms of violence including electronic violence.” An Act Rationalizing the Disability Pension for Veterans aims to update and increase the disability pension rates for veterans and their beneficiaries.
