Salvaging of sunken ship in Mariveles starts

The salvaging of a vessel that submerged last year in Mariveles waters has already started on January 5.

Coast Guard Bataan Commander Jonathan Serote said Irzolex Incorporated has been contracted by HF Marine Pte. Ltd. to salvage its dredging vessel MV Hong Hai 189 that sunk near the coastal area of Barangay Sisiman, Mariveles on April 28, 2023. He said Irzolex is capable, and well-equipped, and well-manned to conduct ship salvaging based on their evaluation. The salvaging of the vessel is expected to finish in 100 days.

Serote said Mariveles Mayor AJ Concepcion visibly looked satisfied upon learning of the development when they paid a courtesy call to him on Wednesday at the municipal hall.

It was learned that the mayor even wrote a representative of HF Marine dated January 8, 2024 asking the immediate removal of the sunken vessel as it is “presenting dangerous and perilous matter not only to fisherfolks of their municipality but also to small vessels plying Cabcaben, Mariveles, Bataan to Cavite province”.

Philippine Coast Guard closely coordinated with HF Marine to finally salvage the sunken ship.
