This is good news for families residing near the flood-prone areas in Samal. The municipal government of Samal is crafting a low-cost housing project intended for informal settlers who had been living near the coastal areas and villages affected by typhoon.
A one-hectare land in Barangay Tabing-Ilog had been reserved for the project that will benefit 200 residents. “Mayor Alex Acuzar wants informal settlers to stay away from the flood-prone areas at para mabawasan ang mga nakatira sa coastal area,” said Jay Lat, municipal administrator. “This is something like rent-to-own scheme where residents have to pay P2,500 per month for 25 years,” Lat explained. He said the municipal government had already conducted survey to ferret out who really are deserving beneficiaries of the project. “Kami na mismo nag-survey para malaman namin kung talagang karapat-dapat makinabang sa project,” Lat added.
