The Securities and Exchange Commission-Tarlac Extension Office (SEC-TAREO) conducted an investor education roadshow for the students of Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) on December 7 at Bataan Youth Center, Balanga City.
In his message, SEC-TAREO Director Richard R. Laus said that this roadshow aims to raise awareness about investment scam prevention and financial literacy among the youth of Bataan.
“The SEC is very serious in its campaigns against illegal investment schemes and we will continue to work hard to fulfill our mandates of protecting the investing public,” he added.
SEC lawyers Ma. Theresa L. Reotutar and Charito B. Santiago served as resource speakers in the said roadshow and shared their knowledge about personal finance, proper budgeting and spotting the red flags of investment scams that will help the BPSU students to properly safeguard their money from investment fraud.
More than a hundred student leaders from five campuses of BPSU participated in the Bataan Leg of the SEC roadshow. The participants were also urged to consider the risks before investing and to verify and check the legitimacy of these investments with the SEC
For her part, Ms. Khristina Anne Dimarucut-Ama, Director for Student Affairs and Services of BPSU thanked the SEC as their partner in protecting their students against investment scams and she looks forward to strengthening this collaboration in terms of capacity-building programs that will develop consciousness on financial literacy and investor protection among the BPSU community.
