Seeing families living near esteros, riverbanks and waterways does not sit well with Samal Mayor Alexander Acuzar.
This is why the municipal government Samal has been pursuing housing projects to accommodate informal settlers. Last Friday, Bataan Gov. Joet Garcia, Mayor Acuzar, Vice Mayor Ronnie Ortiguerra, Sangguniang Bayan members, Congressman Jett Nisay, Board Member Atty. Antonino Roman, and Punong Barangay Glenn Velasco led the groundbreaking ceremonies for two housing projects in Barangay San Juan and Tabing-Ilog.
Representatives from the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD), Pag IBIG Fund, DPWH, DILG and department heads of Samal Municipal Government joined the meaningful program.
Mayor Acuzar acknowledged poverty as the main reason why residents are forced to put up houses in the flood prone areas particularly on the esteros. “Magkakaroon na po tayo ng mahusay na tirahan sa pamamagitan ng PagIBIG Fund at DHSUD na nakahandang tumulong sa atin,” said the mayor.
Board Member Tonyboy lauded the Samal housing project that will solve the problem of informal settlers in our midst. “Matibay at ligtas kayo sa bagyo at pagbaha dahil magkakaroon ng magandang plano para sa inyo,” the younger brother Congresswoman Geraldine Roman told the local residents.
