To foster a more inclusive and considerate society, SM City Bataan, in collaboration with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) Bataan, conducted a seminar centered on effectively managing the needs of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and Senior Citizens last August 15 and 17.
Paula Gayeta, SM public information officer, said the event aimed to enlighten participants about the significance of treating the vulnerable groups with respect, empathy, and understanding. She said the seminar brought together a diverse group of attendees, including tenant employees, janitorial staff, and security personnel of SM City Bataan. She added that the objective was to enhance awareness about the obstacles faced by PWDs and senior citizens and to offer practical insights into addressing their unique requirements.
Mark Joriel De Leon, Assistant Mall Manager of SM City Bataan said the mall is genuinely living up to its tagline āyouāre always welcome hereā. He assured SM City Bataan welcomes all mall-goers. He cited the importance of employees participating in this seminar as it enables each employee to excel in their role by delivering excellent customer service to all. Discussions about information and laws concerning persons with disabilities were facilitated by a consultant of the PCDA Committee Rolando Cortez, Samahan ng Taong may Kapansanan sa Bataan (SATAMAKABA) President Leonarda Parra, Guidance Counselor and PWD Advocate Rommel Arellano and Persons with Disability Affairs Officer PSWDO Eugene Kenneth Carandang.
Participants were presented with statistical data and real-life anecdotes that shed light on the challenges these groups often confront, surrounding issues of physical accessibility and societal acceptance. The insights shared during this seminar inspired the participants to actively collaborate, advocate and implement supportive measures that cater to the needs of the PWDs and Senior Citizens.
