The Philippines signed yesterday a bilateral agreement with Sweden and other partner companies and agencies to improve cancer care in the country.
The Letter of Intent (LOI), which aims to strengthen the healthcare programs of Bataan, particularly in cancer prevention, early detection and treatment, was signed yesterday, Oct 18, at Makati Shangrila Hotel.
Present during the signing were Bataan Gov. Joet Garcia, Sweden’s State Secretary Håkan Jevrell, Ministry for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade representative Ms. Carmen Auste, Vice President of Cancer Coalition Philippines Mr. Emil Akander, Vice President of South and Southeast Asia, Business Sweden Ms. Lotis Ramin, Country President of AstraZeneca Mr. Samuel Lee, Managing Director of Southeast Asia, Elekta Mr. Raymond Soh, Ericsson Vice President of Network Solutions, and Bataan General Hospital and Medi Center head Dr. Glory Baltazar.
Jevrell believes that through this partnership, Sweden, being a global leader in cancer care, will contribute to enhancing cancer care in the Philippines and ultimately improve patients’ access to healthcare.
For his part, Gov. Garcia expressed his gratitude to all the partners for their commitment to this vision. He said, “We will build a future where no one is left behind in the fight against cancer and every citizen has access to timely high-quality care”.
With the help of Business Sweden, Astrazeneca, ELEKTA, Ericsson and Cancer Coalition Philippines, Bataan is embarking on an innovative journey with the signing of the LOI where they will gain access to advanced technologies and international expertise.
