The local government of Samal and University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) recently signed a second memorandum of agreement on Community Health and Development Program.
In the program, UP-PGH enters into partnership with local government units to set up and maintain community-based health programs. Samal Municipal Administrator Jay Lat said the health of Samalenos is a top concern for Mayor Alex Acuzar. “Ang kalusugan ng mga taga-Samal ay isa sa priority ni Mayor Alex Acuzar, kaya suportado nya ang mga programang katulad ng sa UP-PGH na makatutulong para sa mabuting kalusugan ng aming mga kababayan”.
In the signing, Mayor Acuzar was represented by Vice Mayor Ronnie Ortiguerra. Hospital Director Dr. Gerardo D. Legaspi signed for UP-PGH, witnessed by hospital Chairperson of the Department of Pediatrics Dr. Marissa B. Lukban. Also witnessing the signing were Councilor Erval Flores and Samal Rural Health Unit (RHU) Dr. Ryan James Suguitan. Based on the agreement, UP-PGH will deploy doctors to Samal RHU, upland Barangays Palili and Gugo, and Samal North Elementary School to provide basic health care.
