Vexation rap vs Bataan broadcaster ditched

A local court dismissed last week the unjust vexation charges filed by a punong barangay against a radio reporter for failure to prove the element of libel.

Presiding Judge Maria Lourdes Eltanal-Ignacio of Bataan Regional Trial Court Branch 5 in her decision dated June 8, 2023 said Rolando Martinez, Punong Barangay of Sumalo, Hermosa town failed to prove the commission of crime charged against Mhike Cigaral, one of the hosts of “Morning Connection” radio program on Power Radio in Bataan.

The case stemmed from Cigaral’s critical commentaries on Martinez who was suspended by the Sangguniang Bayan of Hermosa for alleged illegal activities. Cigaral based his commentaries on verified sources and documents produced from the decades-long land dispute involving more than 200-hectare property of Litton Family. The land is now under the management of Riverforest Development Corp.
