Hermosa moves toward sustainable progress

The municipality of Hermosa is taking significant steps toward sustainable development through the Young Planning Professionals’ Programme (YPP) of the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP).

Hermosa Mayor Jopet Inton, on Wednesday, shared that two groups of young urban planners recently presented innovative plans that aim to shape the town’s future while prioritizing environmental protection.

The presentations, themed “Kalikasan at Kinabukasan” and “Lipad Hermosa: Shaping a Better Hermosa with Harmony, Resilience, and Sustainability,” showcased strategies for balancing progress with sustainability. These proposals integrate nature and economic growth, reflecting a commitment to fostering a green future for Hermosa while enhancing the town’s resilience to climate change.

ISOCARP’s initiative highlights the importance of sustainable urban planning, involving young professionals in shaping future cities and towns. The plans presented for Hermosa focused on using green infrastructure, improving local communities, and ensuring a balance between development and environmental preservation.

Mayor Inton praised the efforts of ISOCARP and the young planners, emphasizing Hermosa’s dedication to applying strategies that will ensure the town’s growth aligns with long-term ecological sustainability. “In Hermosa, we will consider all strategies necessary to develop our beloved town responsibly,” the mayor said.

The collaboration between the local government and international urban planning professionals underscores Hermosa’s commitment to forward-thinking urban strategies that safeguard both the environment and the welfare of its residents.
