As part of the Provincial Government of Bataan’s (PGB) continuing commitment to community service, employees celebrating their birthdays on July extended their generosity through an outreach activity titled, Dagyaw sa Hulyo, under the “Birthday Ko, Handog Namin sa Iyo” program initiated by Governor Joet Garcia.
The term “Dagyaw” is derived from the Hiligaynon language, meaning “togetherness” or “unity”—a fitting name for an initiative that highlights the spirit of bayanihan and shared responsibility in uplifting communities.
Held at Barangay St. Francis I in Limay last July 31, the outreach activity focused on empowering the local fisherfolk and farmers promoting community resilience—particularly significant during the rainy season when coastal communities are among the most vulnerable.
The day began with a Coastal Clean-Up Drive, a proactive effort to protect the environment and preserve marine ecosystems vital to the livelihood of local fishermen. This was followed by the distribution of relief and rescue kits, aimed at equipping barangay responders with essential tools for emergencies and natural disasters.
In line with strengthening disaster preparedness, a lecture on disaster readiness and response was conducted for barangay officials, to ensure that they are well-informed and capable of responding to calamities more effectively.
To promote long-term sustainability and self-reliance, livelihood trainings and workshops were offered in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU), and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). These sessions included hands-on learning on pandesal making, candle making, and dishwashing soap production—providing participants with practical skills they can turn into income-generating opportunities.
Culminating activity was the distribution of Kabuhayan Kits, helping selected individuals kickstart their own small enterprises.
Dagyaw sa Hulyo not only celebrates the birthdays of public servants in a meaningful way but also embodies the essence of unity and compassion in governance. Through initiatives like this, the PGB continues to promote inclusive growth and responsive public service—where every act of sharing translates to a step towards stronger, safer, and more self-reliant communities.
