Tourism, undoubtedly, has become, and still is, a significant driver of economy in the country; and Mariveles, one of the two wealthiest towns in Bataan, could be a shoo-in to become a tourism hub. Historical accounts of World War II speak volumes on the proposed tourism-related project if it gets through.
What with the historic death march marker and other undeveloped war memorials, the sprawling Freeport Area of Bataan, the proposed airport in Camaya Coast and other significant sites that could be developed into a tourist attraction and would thrive into a dollar earning venture.
This could have been the idea that caught the fancy of reelected Mariveles Mayor Ace Jello Concepcion. This is why he and key town officials, Bataan Peninsula State University officers and tourism stakeholders recently toured the historic Tacloban City in Leyte province.
While there, Mayor AJ and his delegation finalized the Mariveles Local Tourism Development Plan that would lay down clear framework toward the realization of the project.
Present in that important event with the mayor were Administrator Tito Catipon, development and planning officer Engr. Gladys Glochiegre, and Tourism Council Chair Atty. Marife Concepcion. At the open forum with BPSU officers, the group presented different views and laid down proposals and objectives.
The Mariveles officials learned the best practices in tourism development program with the same historical background in Leyte province with McArthur Landing Memorial Park. They also toured the Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lord’s Transfiguration, Sto. Niño Shrine and other historical sites.
