Another breakthrough in healthcare took place in the province as Bataan St. Joseph Hospital and Medical Center successfully procured a catheterization laboratory (CathLab) with artificial intelligence (AI), a first of its kind in the country and second throughout the entire Asia Pacific, which will be used for the treatment of patients with vascular, cardiac, oncological, and neurological (VCON) problems.
This state-of-the-art technology is GE’s IGS 5 with AutoRightTM, which is designed for cardiovascular and interventional imaging and allows specialists to perform “minimally invasive and advanced cutting-edge procedures.”
During the inauguration of the VCON CathLab held last December 8, BSJHMC Medical Director Dr. Angel Aquino toured Department of Health Secretary Dr. Teddy Herbosa and his wife, Dr. Grace Herbosa, DOH Provincial Director Dr. Francisco Hermoso III, Governor Joet Garcia, Vice Governor Cris Garcia, and Balanga City Councilor Christian Manalaysay around the modern facility.
“This CathLab represents your dreams and our aspirations to provide better care for the Filipino people,” said Secretary Herbosa during the reception that followed at The Plaza Hotel in Balanga City. He also added, “Malaking bagay rin ‘yon na the local government really pushes for better healthcare because that stimulates the private sector.”
Governor Garcia stressed the importance of such machine in the province, as patients will not need to travel far to have access on quality healthcare, which also means that more lives will be saved.
A memorandum of agreement between the DOH Regional Office and BSJHMC had already been signed which allows the Regional Office to transfer funds to BSJHMC so that the machine will still be accessible for financially-incapable patients.
