The Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) bared over the weekend several projects lined up in the coming years to align with the Freeport’s modernization program.
Mohammed Hussein P. Pangandaman, AFAB administrator, in an interview after the opening of the annual FAB Fair, said the Freeport Area of Bataan continues to grow and expand its operation in the province of Bataan. In fact, Pangandaman said, the AFAB will venture into housing project to solve housing crisis in the Freeport environs and in Mariveles.
Pangandaman had already discussed the project with former AFAB administrator Emmanuel Pineda, now Usec of Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development. A more or less 50- hectare golf course and retirement house to cater to locators is also in the pipeline. “This will attract investors who will give us more business and employement in the FAB,” he said.
The AFAB, Pangandaman said, is now developing its pier or port facilities for the incoming vessels. “Right now, kung sinu-sino na lang barko nakaparada diyan, maraming barko nakikita namin,” he explained. With the port facilities, the AFAB can monitor all incoming vessels. “We also have our own patrol boats on 24-hour monitoring of all incoming vessels to our area,” added Pangandaman.
This year’s Fab Fair drew 96 locators and other business establishments in the province and neighboring provinces. Now on sale are household items, shirts, shoes, blankets, rubber shoes, perfumes, underwears, gadgets, sportswear, and what have you. All items are sold at factory prices.
