The Bataan Police Provincial Office (PPO) participated in the commemoration of the “Day of National Remembrance for the Heroic Sacrifice of SAF 44 ” on January 25, 2025.
With the theme “Courage Beyond Measure: Remembering the Sacrifice of the SAF 44 for Peace,” the event aimed to honor the 44 members of the Special Action Force (SAF) who gave their lives during the tragic Mamasapano clash in 2015. Among the fallen heroes was PO3 John Lloyd Sumbilla from Morong, Bataan.
The ceremony was held at the Bataan PPO headquarters, attended by police officers, local government officials, and families of the fallen SAF commandos. Highlights of the program included a wreath-laying and candle-lighting ceremony as a tribute to their heroism. Speeches during the event emphasized the importance of continuing the fight for peace and unity against terrorism.
Earlier, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led a similar commemoration in Silang, Cavite. In his message, he urged Filipinos to remember the sacrifice of the SAF 44, including PO3 Sumbilla, as a source of inspiration in promoting peace and order in the country.
The Mamasapano clash occurred on January 25, 2015, in Mamasapano, Maguindanao del Sur, resulting in the death of 44 SAF commandos during an anti-terrorism operation. Despite the tragedy, their bravery continues to be remembered annually as a symbol of their unwavering love for the nation
