Bataan continues to move forward in embracing electric vehicle (EV) technology as BYD, under the Hexagon Group of Companies, held a groundbreaking ceremony on July 14 for its new showroom in Balanga City and a service center in Abucay. The facilities are set to open in October this year.

Governor Joet Garcia, one of the principal authors of the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act during his time in Congress, expressed his full support for the expansion of the EV market in the province.

He shared with Hexagon Group Chairman and President Cris Gamboa that the Provincial Government of Bataan currently operates 18 EVs and is looking to expand its fleet. Some of these vehicles are already in use by the Metro Bataan Development Authority (MBDA) for patrol operations along the Roman Superhighway.

For his part, Mr. Gamboa expressed appreciation for the support of local government units in Bataan, especially in promoting the use of EVs and in establishing free charging stations such as those in SM City Bataan and Vista Mall Bataan, both located in Balanga City.

The public is also expected to benefit from the program, as studies are ongoing on the integration of EVs in public transportation. In addition, free EV charging stations powered by solar energy are set to be constructed in various strategic areas across the province.

Government officials who were also present during the ceremony were Vice Governor Cris Garcia, 1st District Representative Tony Roman, Balanga City Mayor Raquel Garcia and Vice Mayor Francis Garcia, Abucay Mayor Erik Martel, and Hermosa Mayor Anne Inton.
