Stakeholders in the proposed introduction of nuclear energy into the local power mix are worried about the hefty budget required in the construction of facilities.

This was gleaned from a reality check on the planned nuclear deployment during a discussion at “Hybrid Energy: Bridging the Transition to Renewables” forum sponsored recently by the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Some stakeholders composed of environmental scientists and noted corporate individuals opined that construction of nuclear power plants “is now very expensive.”

Bataan Gov. Joet Garcia and Congressman Abet Garcia are one in their earlier pronouncements that nuclear energy is going to be a pricey proposition. On the proposed reviving of mothballed Bataan Nuclear Power Plant in Morong town after 45 years is now irrelevant considering many things have changed.

Local leaders had proposed that the present BNPP structure be converted to a more productive endeavor without sacrificing environmental issues and promote progress for the province.
