Governor Jose Enrique “Joet” Garcia III emphasized during the national commemoration of the 83rd Araw ng Kagitingan celebration the province’s progress in health care, citing it as a modern reflection of the same spirit of service and sacrifice shown by World War II heroes.
In his welcome remarks, Garcia reported that nearly 90 percent of Bataan residents are now enrolled in the PhilHealth Konsulta program, the highest rate in the country. He credited the success to the strong cooperation among the Provincial Government, frontliners, and the public. Garia said the commitment of health workers during and after the COVID-19 pandemic embodies a new kind of heroism. He recalled how medical frontliners served despite the risks, and how many continue to provide essential care without recognition. “The spirit of valor that once shaped our history continues to shape our future. Kagitingan lives on not just in the grand moments of history, but in the quiet, consistent service of our everyday heroes”.
He also expressed his gratitude to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who led the ceremony, for supporting health programs in Bataan including the establishment of the first Bagong Urgent Care and Ambulatory Service (BUCAS) Center in Pilar. The facility aims to ease overcrowding at the tertiary hospital and bring urgent care closer to local communities. The governor added that just like the heroes of Bataan in 1942, today’s health workers show courage in service and dedication to the nation’s well-being.
Aside from the national commemoration, the Provincial Government of Bataan also organized various events and activities to honor Bataeno World War II veterans, including a trade fair, exhibits, cultural shows, competitions and recognition ceremonies that pay tribute to their service and sacrifice.
